Henderson Kentucky is part of the Evansville Metropolitan Area located 10 miles south of Evansville Indiana bordering the Ohio River, locally known as “Kentuckiana” Henderson is known for its humid summer months, cool winters, and beautiful outdoor spaces. The John James Audubon State Park is one of Henderson’s treasures and a tourist favorite. The park’s inspiration is the namesake of the park, James Audubon, a naturalist and painter who made Henderson Kentucky his home, and whose passion was exploring the region while painting and sketching local birds. Audubon Park offers visitors 700 acres of hills and forest land that includes old-growth trees, miles of hiking trails, campgrounds, and a nine-hole golf course. The park also consists of the Audubon Museum which displays numerous artworks of Audubon’s art, a gift shop, and a nature center. The Audubon Park is open year-round and offers interpretive programs that focus on the history of Audubon’s art, native animals and plants, and of course conservation.

Henderson has a long tradition of hosting annual festivals and barbecues dating back to 1926. One of the largest festivals in Henderson is the Bluegrass in the Park Folklife Festival which is the longest running, yearly music festival in Henderson staring the top names in music, as well as highlighting local arts and crafts.
